Cheers Greg! I've been really studying a lot of pictures of gold to understand the way it refracts light and how it acts in different ambient light sources. It's funny because often the highlights have to come from below.
Always good to study actual reference material. It's why color exploded onto all my bases lately. Go figure that real life has tons of color in things! :)
Definitely! I'm gonna do all of the gold on this first and then I'll move onto the steels and silvers. There'll be some real study there too I think - my older grey nmms have been very flat.
You certainly can! You can't really see it so well in the photos here, but I tried writing in some text in the centre of the gold plate - it does look a bit much I think. Fitting his whole name (Ensifer) onto it was probably a little ambitious. I might repaint that section and just put on a simple XIII.

DeleteI think you can always go a bit too extreme, then later pull it back with glazes if need be. So don't ever worry about it being too much!
