Working on this fella for an Imperial Fists diorama (great crusade era) featuring Legionaires in mk's III & IV armour battling against maybe orks? With Sigismund at the fore.
As you can see, he's not quite finished and I'm still waiting on those forgeworld kits. I also have to build a diorama box but I cant decide whether to make it a corner of a box or one with 3 sides.
I'm hoping to have it finished by November 22nd for a painting contest my local GW is running.
Wish me luck, and as always - constructive criticism is encouraged.
He could use a tiny bit more definition on the middle torso plates and his belt, they sort of blend together a little. its probably the fact that yellow shades weird.
ReplyDeleteAlso, his right chest plate has a great blank spot to add a bullet hole or something, maybe a small black cross or another black Templar specific icon, to really tie him together.Maybe a crusader seal? you know the other kind of purity seal.
IDK I think my bias for BT over IF is showing through.
Crusader armor helms look great on mark 4 assault torsos, very techno knight. I want to bash up a set my self.
Hey Greggor! Thanks for your reply. Yellow is a very strange colour to use as its pigmentation is a little odd I find. I reckon that bit on the torso you were talking about could maybe use another watered down wash of sepia.
DeleteI dont want to add to much more detail to the chestplate as It's going to be part of a diorama, so there will already be plenty happening around it - including a nice big freehand banner with the mkIV command kit from forgeworld, an apothecary in mkIII, a comms officer in mkIV and one mkIII marine with a bolter. I'm still deciding on just what I want them to be fighting. I figured orks were a common enough occurence in the great crusade, so perhaps them although I'm not 100% on that yet.
I agree a bit with Greggor. I like how the black is breaking up the side and back. I think you could use it a bit to help break up the yellow. Maybe just doing some darker shading in the armor plate joints would do it (on the front).
DeleteThis are just nitpicking things though. Without the position in the diorama and such, it's hard to give a full critique. As you said, it could already be perfect :).
As soon as I get home from work tonight, that watered down sepia wash is going straight onto his torso :)
DeleteI may end up putting up a plan of the diorama once I figure it out. I already have some idea - marines on a hill in a stoic display of defiance against some swarm or other.
